TEC-SMART

Hudson Valley Community College’s TEC-SMART facility in Malta, NY features more than a dozen state-of-the-art classrooms and laboratories to train students to enter the workforce.

TEC-SMART (Training and Education Center for Semiconductor Manufacturing and Alternative and Renewable Technologies) is a critical component in preparing our students for a new economy that promotes job growth, environmental sustainability and technological innovation.

Through TEC-SMART, Hudson Valley is producing a skilled workforce to serve major employers including GLOBALFOUNDRIES, General Electric, SunPower Inc. and Solar City.

Classes and Programs

In addition to the industrial technology courses offered, students can take general education, business, liberal arts and humanities courses in the fall, spring and summer semesters. Each summer, TEC-SMART is home to the college's Technology Enrichment Programs for middle and high schoolers.

Career-Ready Partnerships

TEC-SMART is also home to the Clean Technologies and Sustainable Industries Early College High School (ECHS), a partnership with the Ballston Spa Central School District, that offers four pathways: Renewable Energy, Entrepreneurship, Computer Information Science and Semiconductor Manufacturing.

Community Education and Engagement

School groups, community organizations and businesses visit TEC-SMART with increasing frequency for programs and information session, and regularly hosts external groups who use the facility to host meetings and seminars.

TEC-SMART is a showcase for energy efficient building principles

LEED Platinum Certification from U.S. Green Building Council

The 43,000-square-foot building uses passive solar design, is highly energy efficient and generates one-third of its energy needs by harnessing the power of wind and the sun. The building is not air conditioned; rather it uses the geothermal energy of the earth for heating and cooling and serves as a teaching tool for students in the college's construction, electrical, HVAC, engineering and architecture programs.

A joint initiative of Hudson Valley Community College and the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), TEC-SMART is located in the Saratoga Technology and Energy Park® (STEP®).
